Why Democracy Matters?

KAS PDA: Why do you think democratic values and principles are important for your country?

Ms. Rizky Putri Amalia: In Indonesia, we have practiced democracy since 1999 after the fall of the old regime. Since then, democracy has been in a very beneficial and valuable position for our country, especially to the economic development. Because of democracy, Indonesia became more stable in terms of its economy as well as equally in development, especially infrastructure development and social. People in Indonesia became more educated and more open-minded.

KAS PDA: In your context, what do you think are the main challenges to democracy?

Ms. Rizky Putri Amalia: Although we have been living under a democratic government for about like 20 years, the main challenge or the biggest challenge is education of a proper and positive democracy. As a young politician, we need to educate our future generation of a proper and better democracy in a positive way.

KAS PDA: As a young leader, what can you do to ensure that you become and remain a democratic leader?

Ms. Rizky Putri Amalia: I will educate my people about what is true democracy. I would say, I will encourage my people to make positive contribution for a better Indonesia. And, I want Indonesia to be internationally prominent country for living.
