Daniel Schranz

Daniel Schranz has been head of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation's KommunalAkademie (Local Government Academy) since 1 November 2025, making him responsible for the KAS's local government activities. Born in Oberhausen in 1974, he studied modern history, economic history and political science at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf after completing his A-levels and military service. He first came into contact with the Foundation as a scholarship holder and spokesperson for the Düsseldorf scholarship group.

 

After completing his master's degree and working at the university and in a medium-sized family business, he joined the Konrad Adenauer Foundation professionally in March 2009. In addition to his duties as regional representative for North Rhine-Westphalia and head of the state and regional office in Düsseldorf, he established the KommunalAkademie.

 

Having been involved in local and regional politics on a voluntary basis since his school days, Schranz was elected mayor of the city of Oberhausen in September 2015, a position he held for two terms until the end of October 2025. In addition to his involvement in the main committee of the German Association of Cities and the board of the North Rhine-Westphalia Association of Cities, he has also gained extensive experience in numerous committees in the banking industry, utilities and waste disposal, economic and tourism promotion, and culture and science.
