Johannes Hügel has been the head of the Ecuador foreign office based in Quito since January 2023. Mr. Hügel has been working for KAS in Germany and abroad for more than seven years. Most recently, he worked as an officer for special and cross-cutting issues in the Latin America department from 2019-2022, supervising the country projects Peru and Ecuador as well as the regional program Energy Security and Climate Change in Latin America. One focus of his work included China's influence in Latin America. Previously, Mr. Hügel worked as a Scientific Coordinator within the Multinational Development Dialogue of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Brussels from 2015-2019. There he was responsible for the thematic areas of energy, climate and environment in close coordination with the KAS Global Program Climate and Energy.
