Lukas Kupfernagel has been Head of the Ethiopia & African Union Office based in Addis Ababa since July 2023. Previously, he was a country desk officer in the Middle East & North Africa department, looking after North African countries. Lukas Kupfernagel began his career at the Foundation in 2016 in the Tunisia Office as a trainee before starting his domestic work in the Evaluation Unit in 2019. He studied International Relations and Peace and Conflict Studies in Bremen, Marburg and Ankara, where he completed his Master of Arts in 2015 with a thesis on markets of violence in Afghanistan. During his studies, he gained initial experience at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the GIZ in Jordan.
