Matthias Barner

Since 2009, Matthias Barner has worked for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) both in Germany and abroad. Since 2025, he has been responsible for the field of European security policy at the foundation's headquarters in Berlin. Previously, from 2020 to 2024, he served as Director of the KAS Office for the United Kingdom and Ireland in London. From 2016 to 2020, he headed the country projects for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, based in Prague. Between 2012 and 2016, he was the foundation’s spokesperson in Berlin. From 2009 to 2012, he led the KAS Media Programme South East Europe, based in Sofia.

Before joining KAS, he worked at the CDU Federal Headquarters and in the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag, including as spokesperson for the CDU of Germany from 2006 to 2009. Matthias Barner studied Political Science, Public Law, and Romance Studies in Bonn and Bologna.
