Key framework conditions for bioenergy are changing this year due to a series of changes in legislation, such as the amendment of the German Building Energy Act (Gebäudeenergiegesetz), the German Renewable Energy Act (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz) and the European Renewable Energy Directive.

Guatemalans fight for their democracy

Large parts of the country and the capital paralyzed in Guatemala

Guatemala cannot rest easy. Following Bernardo Arévalo's surprising success in the first round of the Guatemalan presidential elections and his convincing victory in the runoff elections on August 20, tensions are intensifying. Influential forces are doing everything they can to prevent the president-elect from taking power on January 14, 2024. The Guatemalan population is resisting this "coup d'état on the quiet" (Arévalo) more strongly by the day. Since the weekend, large parts of the country and the capital have been paralyzed. There is no end in sight to this power struggle.

Analysis of the parliamentary election in Hesse on 8 October 2023

Report on the preliminary final result, the main voting determinants, voter migration and social structure.

The CDU wins the parliamentary election in Hesse. It achieves 34.6 percent and gains 7.6 percentage points compared to the 2018 election. While in 2018 CDU and SPD suffered considerable losses, the CDU recovered while the SPD lost again. At 15.1 percent the SPD is the third largest party in parliament now. The AfD wins votes and has a share of 18.4 percent. The Greens are down to 14.8 percent. The FDP passes the five-percent hurdle while the Linke comes in at 3.1 percent and will not be part of the new parliament.

Research and Sources on Contemporary History

In der Reihe „Forschungen und Quellen zur Zeitgeschichte“ veröffentlicht das Archiv für Christlich-Demokratische Politik seit 1980 wissenschaftliche Studien zur Christlichen Demokratie, Darstellungen zur Geschichte der Bundesrepublik und der CDU sowie Biographien wichtiger Repräsentanten.
