The poster works on the assumption that children all over the world love many of the same things. It stresses the SIMILARITIES between children who have come to Germany as refugees and children who have been here for longer. It was decided to make the poster "child's play" by doing away with definite and indefinite articles and restricting the number of topics covered. This was a deliberate attempt to reduce the anxiety that children often feel when faced with the dual challenge of learning a new language and dealing with unfamiliar letters.
The aim is to promote a sense of fun, joy and curiosity, and in this way help children to gain a sense of confidence, resilience and independence.
The target group is children of pre-school and primary school age. According to current UNICEF reports, this group requires more attention and needs "structured play and learning activities" (UNICEF Situation Report on the situation of refugee children in Germany, June 2016). The poster can also act as a starting point for other educational activities, such as the grammatical use of articles, and the topics can serve as a springboard for further learning. The poster is ideal for use wherever there are refugee children.
