Bombs at the Bazaar

The Reasons behind the Attack on Tourists in Cairo

The bomb blast in the old town of Cairo on the 22nd of February hit Egypt in a critical moment. Politically, the anger over corruption, misgovernment and rising prices is growing. From neighbouring countries and the opposition the country received strong criticism for its policy during the Gaza crisis. Economically, the worldwide financial crisis and the decline in tourism are clearly perceivable. The Egyptian Government is working hard on investigating the reasons behind the attack and on improving the security situation in the country. (in German)
