This Sunday, 15 March 2026, the citizens of the Republic of Congo are called upon to elect their new president. This new president will most likely be the old one, Dennis Sassou Nguesso (82 years old), which is considered a foregone conclusion. However, the elections are taking place in the context of systemic competition in a multipolar world, with Russia, China and the EU vying for influence in the Congo Basin. The main objective of this country report is to highlight the current agendas, analyse the interests of the various actors and understand how these relate to the presidential elections.
The full country report is only available in German.
