Mongolia’s Foreign Minister recently announced that the country would follow a “Feminist Foreign Policy” from now on. Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was quick to pick up on this and to reference Mongolia in her attempt at giving the concept more prominence in Germany's Foreign Relations. Fittingly, she will take part in an all-female minister conference in Ulaanbaatar. But does the newest buzzword adequately describe the reality of Mongolia's politics abroad? Traditionally, the East Asian country pursues classically interest-driven policies with its neighbors. Although hyped labels like this might guarantee you some attention for a short time, they gravely misrepresent the challenges the sparsely populated country faces in reality.
