This week marked an important milestone for KAS Media Africa as we participated in the annual GlobalFact conference for the first time. In addition to our attendance, we were proud to support the participation of four fact-checkers from Kenya and Nigeria, further strengthening representation from the African continent.
GlobalFact26 took place in Vilnius, Lithuania, bringing together a diverse global community dedicated to advancing fact-checking and information integrity. Over the course of three days, the conference served as a powerful reminder of the critical role fact-checking plays in today’s rapidly evolving information landscape.
Engaging with fact-checkers working on the frontlines, as well as experts addressing emerging challenges and innovations in combating disinformation, provided valuable insights into both the complexities and opportunities within the field. The event highlighted not only the scale of the challenge, but also the depth of collaboration taking place across regions, languages, and contexts.
A key takeaway from multiple sessions was the shared understanding that in today’s information economy, where individuals both actively and passively consume and share information, everyone has a role to play in verifying and strengthening the quality of information. In essence, everyone should be a fact-checker.
It was particularly encouraging to see how partnership and support translate into tangible impact. From stronger professional networks to improved tools and methodologies, the outcomes of initiatives like GlobalFact directly contribute to building more resilient and trustworthy information ecosystems. We also appreciated the opportunity to engage and exchange with colleagues from the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s Media Programme for Asia and their fellows, reinforcing the value of cross-regional collaboration.
We extend our sincere thanks to the GlobalFact community for creating a platform that goes beyond discussion - actively driving change and innovation in the pursuit of accurate and reliable information.
