With Péter Magyar, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and its partners welcome a European head of government whose election as Prime Minister marks a new political beginning in Hungary. Following the victory of his TISZA Party in the elections on 12 April 2026, Magyar was elected Prime Minister on 9 May, bringing Viktor Orbán’s 16 years in power to an end. Among his government’s key political priorities are strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law, restoring trust in public institutions, and reorienting Hungary’s relationship with the European Union.
9 November will mark the 37th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 1989, Hungary played a decisive role in overcoming the division of Europe by opening the Iron Curtain. Against this historic backdrop, Péter Magyar will set out his views on the future of Europe and the European Union.
Before Péter Magyar’s State of Europe Address, four young Europeans will present live on stage ideas they developed with their teams as part of the KAS Makerthon Europe. The audience will then vote for the best approach. The KAS Makerthon is an action-oriented innovation format developed by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. This year’s KAS Makerthon Europe explored how the European Way of Life can be strengthened and communicated through political visions tailored to specific audiences and compelling narratives.
The event will also be broadcast via an English-language livestream. The livestream will be embedded on this website.
The event is organized in cooperation with Allianz SE and the European Academy Berlin.
