Dr. Friedrich Püttmann
Policy Advisor
Since January 2025, Dr Friedrich Püttmann has been a policy adviser at KAS’s Europe Office in Brussels, covering KAS’s relations with the EPP, high-level visits, and elections in Europe, as well as European migration policy and the EU’s relations with Turkey. Prior to joining KAS Europe, he worked as a migration researcher and political analyst for various think tanks, including the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), the European Stability Initiative, and the KAS Turkey Office in Ankara, as well as in academia in Istanbul and London, where he also taught classes. Additionally, he gained experience as a Blue Book Trainee in the Turkey Division of the EU’s diplomatic service (EEAS) and as a child actor on television. After attending secondary school in Germany and France, followed by a one-year volunteer service in Kosovo, Dr Püttmann studied sociology, philosophy, and politics on a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung) at Maastricht, Freiburg, and Oxford as well as London and Istanbul. He earned his PhD from the London School of Economics with research stays at Sciences Po Paris, the French Institute for Anatolian Studies (IFEA), Istanbul Policy Center, and KAS Washington, DC.
