On March 25, 2022, the board meeting of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung focused on the events in Ukraine and the consequences for our work. Russia's aggression is not only an attack on Ukraine, but also an attack on our European and the international order; also, it challenges our work in Russia and the entire region. The head of our office in Kharkiv, Dr. Brigitta Triebel, the head of our office in Kyiv, Tim Peters, and the head of our office in Moscow, Dr. Thomas Kunze, reported on the current situation and developments in the region with regard to our work.

The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung has had an office in Kyiv since 1994; since 2017, also in Kharkiv in Eastern Ukraine, where we have been the only German political foundation on site. The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung has been active in Russia since 1990. Our colleagues who served in our offices in Ukraine and Russia returned to Germany. We have also taken supportive measures for our local staff. Some of them have been able to leave Ukraine and to arrive at an EU country safely; a number of local staff have remained in Ukraine. In the meantime, we immediately stopped all our activities in Russia with the attack on Ukraine and have now suspended our work there. Against this background, we will be reassessing and realigning our work across the region in the coming time.

In addition, the executive board decided on the appointment and reappointment of members of the Board of Trustees. 22 members were reappointed to the Board of Trustees; five were newly appointed: Markus Hartmann, chief prosecutor and head of the cybercrime unit in North Rhine-Westphalia (Zentral- und Ansprechstelle Cybercrime Nordrhein-Westfalen, ZAR NRW), Anna Kreye, head of the Minister's Office for the Interior and Sport of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, Prof. Dr. Armin Nassehi, chair of sociology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Sarna Röser, chairperson of DIE JUNGEN UNTERNEHMER, and Kim Thy Tong, deputy chairperson of the Junge CDA.
