Protests Against Egypt's Border Policy

by Vinzenz Himmighofen, Dr. Andreas Jacobs
One year after the Gaza war, the conflict on the border to the Gaza Strip escalates again. Speculations on the expansion of the border security facilities, the dispute about pro-Palestinian actions of solidarity and the question of opening the border triggered the controversy which so far claimed the life of one Egyptian soldier. The Egyptian Government faces yet again the challenge of enforcing its alliance policy and security interests against domestic and regional opposition. (in German)
