Egypt’s Balancing Act in the Gaza Conflict

Ägyptens Balanceakt im Gaza-Krieg

At the beginning of the combat operations in the Gaza Strip, most observers agreed that Egypt would be among the losers of the Israeli-Hamas conflict. Mubarak’s government was criticized for its inaction and complicity with Israel. Meanwhile, however, the sentiment in the land has changed, and Cairo has become an important mediator in the conflict. If both sides soon agree on a ceasefire Egypt could even emerge as a winner. (in German)
