‘Alone in the wilderness’ – Merkel warns of Europe's weakness at the Pöttering Symposium

Honorary symposium on the occasion of Prof. Hans-Gert Pöttering's 80th birthday

A full hall, rapt attention, big names: the focus of the evening was the honorary symposium ‘The Treaty of Lisbon – Experiences and Lessons for Europe's Future’. Prof. Hans-Gert Pöttering's 80th birthday was an occasion to honour his political life's work and at the same time to open a debate on the future of the European Union. The former President of the European Parliament was Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation from 2010 to 2017. Guests included former German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel, Prof. Dr Norbert Lammert, Mikuláš Dzurinda, Klaus Welle, Lena Düpont MEP and Tilman Kuban MP.
